A world full of magic and wonder
it’s ALWAYS BEEN here, we just need to remember

Hi there!
I’m Michelle
Stories are my passion
I’m proudly an introvert with a late-diagnosed touch of auADHD. Importantly, after decades distracting myself from my lifetime passion, now I have the time and inclination to share my take on the world, love of fantasy, and my writing and art. Some of it may even work together, who knows?
I see stories like movies in my head. Some even come with a music track (when I dream them). Not being a music writer I can’t capture those sound tracks, but the best I can do is write the story. When people ask me where I get all my ideas from, my response is, “I don’t know. My question is how do I turn them off sometimes?” which inevitably shuts them up for a moment.
I’m known best for
FANTASY
I create worlds a little off-centre but always based in the everyday
DIALOGUE
I don’t chat well in real life, but my characters make up for it
CHARACTER DRIVING
Who doesn’t want to boss somebody around with impunity?

It took lots of courage but
Look where we
are now.
I’ve always felt a good lot of imposter syndrome, one of the (s0) many psychological notions most writers have from time to time. Although I published long ago (under a pen name) it was at a time when self-publishing was shiny new and there were less algorithms and rules. Years later I find myself seriously wanting to share my work and publish again - this time under my own name. Stories are meant to be shared just like a good scone recipe.

Get to know me
where i’ve been:
Born and brought up in New Zealand, married in Hawaii, lived in England
always with me:
Coffee, art supplies, books and too many pets
WHERE I live:
A small beach suburb off the Pacific Ocean, Coffs Coast, New South Wales, Australia
Bios

Michelle Thompson is an emerging author specialising in cozy fantasy and magical realism. Set in contemporary, quaint villages, her stories weave mythological creatures and cryptids into tales of found families and charming local life.

There are certain things unpublished writers are told to avoid in creating a bio. Without having some kind of writing rewards or publishing credentials, we have little to say, so what we do is discuss our location, our previous careers, our likes and hobbies, and our writing companions. Just to fill a page (or website accordian box).
Which makes us all sound the same. Here’s the test -I write from a small beach town with fresh Pacific Ocean salty air (good for asthma, it turns out) At night the ocean roars more and more as we face the repercussions of global warming.
My career - I used to work in I.T. as a test manager (boring, right?)
I love coffee (Australia does it better than the U.S. or the U.K. and I stand by that statement to my death)
I have 2 dogs and 2 cats. I’ve always had pets, several have travelled 10,000 miles between houses with me. There is absolutely nothing special about any of the animals even when I try to find something worthy of attention.
There, I sound just like you, don’t I? And I managed to talk about all the things we aren’t meant to.
