Introducing Project Cosy Creatures (PCC)

Cottage Griffen

This brand new website under my own name (shiver, very brave of me) was created without much thought. I happened to read one of the hundreds of daily emails in my inbox last week. The newsletter suggested how to blog along and produce content while writing a book. Hey! I was writing a book, and missed blogging just for the sake of it.

So here we are. A new website, some blog posts, playing around on a template to get it to work for me (can we just admit this is a whole heap of writing procrastination and move on…).

Incidentally - full credit to Design Pixie for the squarespace template used for the site. I’m changing it up, but the teal tones and fun fonts helped lead the way to make a (hopefully) cosy site.

My name is Michelle. This will be the first time I’ve acknowledged that I’m a longterm writer, the first under my name anyway. It’s been almost thirty years since I was on Squarespace, and a good eight or so since writing a post on anything. I feel all new and shiny again, which is saying something.

Project Cosy Creatures

Less than three months ago I started writing a little cosy fantasy as a side project to a large fiction series I’ve been writing. I began writing PCC (and continue to do so) 600 words at a time, designed to fit with a random writing prompt from one of two writing groups I attend. I’m naturally a novelist, so writing little short stories to random prompts has challenged me in many ways.

But the outcome is that my little side project has become my main writing project, and one I am in love with. This story hasn’t got a title as yet. On here I’m calling it ‘Project Cosy Creatures’, (in private it has a whole heap of other names sometimes a little ungracious). But Project Cosy Creatures hints at some of the content and atmosphere of this story I am building.

My brand of cosy is set in reality and contemporary times. The PCC storyworld has a location of a small village in Norfolk, England, which I’ve previously lived close to; and importantly, my husband was born in (got him onboard, check ✔️). My storywork combines that place, with my lifelong love of mythology, a smidge of fantasy, and the realities of everyday contemporary life. Oh, I added romance too.

I’ll be sharing some of that storyworld, plus the writing process as I build this website. I’m also getting back into art, so will pepper in some of my artmaking too. I do hope you will enjoy it.
