How I Write

A couple of considerations - I am on a Windows PC with an Ipad which means that I use cross-platform tech with cloud storage to cross those platforms. I also come from a technology industry so play around a lot with the latest tools.

    1. At the moment short scene or story drafts are written in Living Writer which provides web-based and app access and quick PDF exports for writing group reads.

    2. For further work, organisation and publishing formats, work is amalgamated into Scrivener (for Windows)

    3. Further tools I wouldn’t be without in writing are listed below.

    1. Plottr is used for plot timelines

    2. Notion contains my storyworld - some call this a storybible, storylog etc. Characters, settings, world elements etc are contained and worked on here. (I do not keep these in Scrivener as I’m a highly visual person so need to be able to access this on multiple devices).

    3. Notion also contains a writing administration hub, but mostly my daily writing cycles are organised through daily notes in Obsidian.

  • WRITING GROUPS
I receive support for my writing from writing groups found both locally and virtually. This is incredibly important for growth and also motivation.

    WRITING LEARNING

After years writing, I must have taken hundreds of writing courses, mostly over the internet due to my location. This can be a procrastination method, however.

Nowadays I allow myself to enrol in up to four courses a year if I feel the need. There are also many virtual summits (often free) run over the year which I like to watch.

In all cases, even if I don’t learn anything new, I always come away with a little something to inspire my writing.
